He was super cool and friendly. his shop has tours every Friday at 3:30 and I was in the area so it was easy. Dan seems exactly as portrayed on tv. pissy about customers and their unrealistic budget constraints. Dan said the big 3 are mustang corvette(C2) and Camaro. All of these cost over 100k to restore correctly. He said LS swaps cost 30k for everything involved and gets pissy when people think they cost 5k. people online say he gouges and im inclined to believe it. Dan said velocity does not pay him to film. I wish I could take pictures but they weren’t allowed due to the show. Any questions post em up.

My mom really wants him to restore their ‘68 GTO, but I’m not sure if my dad will go through with it.

I wonder what his price schedule looked like before the show went on the air. It’s would be interesting to see if he’s always been expensive because his shop does such good work, or if he’s expensive now because he’s Velocity Channel famous.

I don’t think they’ll be able to find another - it’s a numbers matching XW block car.

I don’t know if his pricing has changed but his availability has 100%. he said he accepts 5-10% of all submissions. so you might have the cash but he might not like your car/story

all im saying is restoring classics isn’t cheap and Dans been known to ditch numbers matching numbers before. Idk if I would commission him because once he takes your car you have to pay

My jaw dropped when I saw how much he charged to finish the engine swap and wiring harness in that YJ Wrangler. It was ridiculous, but his shop does good work.

during the Q+A Dan was like how much do you think an LS and a t56 cost and the visitors guessed. I was so tempted to raise my hand and go Dan my buddy will do an LT1 with a 7 speed and Bluetooth and everything all in for 55k. Dan would go Bullshit and I would go na his name is chevrolet

A mustang costs over 100k to ‘restore correctly’?! It’s not a Lancia Flaminia or Jag XK120 alloy body now is it? The panels can be bought new, the motor almost the same and all the switchgear too. High end cars need specialist equipment, specialist tools, and specialists to use them. A Mustang was slapped together in the sixties for people to run stoplight drag-races. They weren’t ‘discerning customers’ and the cars weren’t put together as such. It shouldn’t take 100k to achieve that level of ‘excellence’.

I don’t know enough to comment. I just know he takes cars completely to the frame and strips them. the man hours alone has to be huge and at a high rate im sure. doing something yourself and hiring someone are two different things. and he said yea those three are “cheap” because you can buy every part. he had a Maserati 3000 too and said parts are a bitch and super expensive and hard to find

True, but he often boasts that cars leave his shop better than they were when they came off the production line. I don’t know all that much about auto restoration, but I imagine there is a difference between a historic restoration that tries to return the car to its day 1 state versus a restoration that includes significant upgrades to components.

The show is unwatchable as he acts like a whiny bitch...
